What is Sthapatya Veda?
Sthapatya Veda is one of the 40 aspects of the ancient Veda and Vedic Literature. It represents the establishing quality of cosmic creative intelligence that aligns the individual with the Laws of Nature in the universe. The original Sanskrit texts associated with this aspect outline principles of architecture and environmental design and planning.
Maharishi Sthapatya Veda design is the revival of Sthapatya Veda. It connects every part of the knowledge to its holistic basis restoring this ancient system of architecture to its original purity and dignity. Maharishi Mahesh Yogi has revived Sthapatya Veda as one of the disciplines of his Vedic Science and Technology, the science and technology of consciousness.
Those who live and work in homes and office buildings designed
through Maharishi Sthapatya Veda architecture directly experience
the profound benefits of this revival. Today, for the first
time, we have a fortune-creating building technology, a
technology that creates homes and offices that promote good
health, clear thinking, happiness, harmony, and prosperity
for the family or business—architecture that is truly in
accord with Natural Law.
What does the term "proper Vastu" mean?
Vastu is a Sanskrit term signifying "holistic structure of Natural Law." The term "proper Vastu" refers to a house or town and its immediate environment when designed according to the principles of Maharishi Sthapatya Veda design.
Are there any special features in Maharishi Sthapatya Veda design?
Maharishi Sthapatya Veda architecture involves a number of special features in the design. The brahmasthan — a central garden square in a town, or a central court or atrium in a house — is the place where the totality of Natural Law nourishes and upholds the entire structure, connecting individual life with cosmic life, individual intelligence with cosmic intelligence.
A vastu fence (see the picture on the left) around the exterior of the building allows entrance to the building only from the most auspicious direction. A kalash is a special Maharishi Sthapatya Veda roof ornament that connects heaven and earth. A plinth is a raised foundation between grade level of the building and the first floor with specified proportions and a decorative appearance.
Are natural and non-toxic building materials important in Maharishi Sthapatya Veda architecture?
Maharishi Sthapatya Veda design strongly supports the use
of natural and non-toxic materials in the construction of
buildings. Even in modular housing projects, it is recommedned
to minimize unhealthy influences and use natural, non-toxic
materials whenever possible.
If I did only one thing to bring my home more into accord
with Natural Law, what would that be?
Close all the southern entrances to your house. In the authentic
records of Sthapatya Veda, any entrance to a building that
is other than due east or due north (but particularly a
southern entrance), is said to be inauspicious and can create
an array of undesirable influences for the occupants. By
merely closing southern entrances to incoming and outgoing
traffic, positive changes in good fortune have been known
to occur.
Are the benefits of the Maharishi Sthapatya Veda home
still there if I buy a home someone else has built?
Yes. The Laws of Nature are lively in all buildings constructed
according to Maharishi Sthapatya Veda design and anyone
who owns the home or lives in it will experience that support
from Nature.
